  1. Looks like you have some good answers. It doesn't have any real history. It is not a martial arts. It is a exercise program. Billy Blanks former martial arts champion is the creator of this fitness program. It has made him  lot of money. I believe he made more money selling tapes than he has making movies. Yes, he is in a few martial arts movies that you can rent.

  2. The real history of tae bo is that Billy Blanks started it when he realized many women couldn't handle the intense training and discipline that accompanies traditional martial arts training (he was quoted in an article saying as much). Thus, he invented the watered-down, go-through-the-motions, play-karate "art" of tae bo. It's really nothing more than a disgrace to all serious martial artists though.

  3. It is 1000's of years old.  Probably the most ancient of all the martial arts, except for Krav Maga.  It has been practiced in temples throughout the world, even South American and Africa, and it was even found depicted in cave paintings before written records were kept.

It is a deadly serious killing system.

No, just kidding.  The answer above me about Billy Blanks is correct.  It is not a martial art.

  4. it's a workout routine for getting in shape. it was created by billy blanks, a TKD champion, I think back in the 90's.

  6. Tae Bo can be a good transition into Taekwondo, Kickboxing or Muay Thai, but it isn't a martial art itself

Tae Bo is a fairly new cardiovascular exercise that combines self-defense moves, aerobics, martial arts, kickboxing, dancing and yoga. Billy Blanks is the man who created this unusual and reportedly highly effective fitness program after noticing more traditional fitness programs were not doing the job. Tae Bo not only burns fat, but also increases coordination and builds muscle. It also promises to actually be fun!

Billy Blanks himself is highly trained in Tae Kwon Do and Western aerobics. When he noticed how few women were present in any of the martial arts classes he attended in the early 80s, he concluded it was time to create a new kind of workout. One that would not only reshape a womans physique, but one that would boost their self-confidence as well. Of course, Tae Bo is meant for both women and men.

When Billy Blanks created Tae Bo it was for the purpose of getting more people interested in improving their general health. In an effort to avoid users getting bored with the exercise, he borrowed from different types of exercises to create an intense workout which would be set to music. Tae Bo draws from kickboxing, dance choreography, self-defense punches, martial arts and stretching and holding from yoga. All this, along with constant aerobic movements is bound to increase your overall fitness and guarantee weight loss.

  8. I agree with James this is one of the most ancient forms of martial art coming from the land of California. The most Wise and noble Billy Blanks was the founder. These teachings have their roots in the ancient art of Hype the Fool an art that originated in the ancient land of Madison Avenue. He had some legal problems when the unworthy practitioners started to developed tendinitis. He settled their hash out of court and now has a disclaimer on the tapes and CD's as well as some more description of how to properly do the moves.

  9. Tae Bo is an aerobic exercise routine developed by tae kwon do practitioner Billy Blanks, and was one of the first "cardio-boxing" programs to enjoy commercial success. Such programs use the motions of martial arts at a rapid pace designed to promote fitness. The name Tae Bo is a portmanteau of tae kwon do and boxing. Blanks later developed a backronym for the name as well: Total Awareness Excellence Body Obedience.
