What is the hole in the back of my dual reflex camera?

i have bought a dual reflex camera and there is a hole in the back w/ a red filter. will that affect my pictures? should i cover it up?

  1. what you have is genraly called a twin lens reflex camera the hole you are talking about lets you see the frame numbers on the back of roll film the hard part will be finding film if it is any size but 120 or 220 film you might check porters camera store on line the usded to have some older film formats like 126in stok or orderable.

HI there.  I am pretty sure that hole is suppose to be there.  When you load your film....  the hole is to keep you informed as to which number picture you are on.    You can see if you are on picture 5 or 8 and then you will know when you are at your last picture so that you don't wind it more than necessary.      HOpe that helps.
