  1. If the vessel is considered a "ship",  then it is usually constructed of iron/steel and various other materials


  2. Good answer Dan! but you forgot Aluminum! Just about all of the big catamaran ferry's are constructed out of Aluminum.

  3. Probably 99% of ships have hulls made of steel. Some other materials used are wood, fiberglass, and concrete. For example, the USS Constitution and USS Constellation are made of wood. These ships are not sailed but are historic icons.

    Some large private yachts are made of the last 3 materials. There are also some ships that have iron hulls.

  4. Mostly steel, however minesweepers are made of plastic for obvious reasons.
