What is the hz rating for high def playback mean?

i recently purchased a plasma tv and i wanted to know what the hz rating was on playback. cable broadcast seems to be @60hz my blue-ray player is running @24hz does this affect the picture quality.

Depending on the model of your set, if it accepts 24Hz input, then the display can run at 48 or 72 Hz.  For TV input at 60Hz, the display runs at 60 Hz.  If your set does this, then you will get the best quality from movie sources if you use the 24Hz output from the player.  The set will detect it and adjust its display frequency to either 48Hz or 72Hz.  The main difference in appearance is not the sharpness of the picture, but the "smoothness" of motion of moving objects.


  2. No, it doesn't.  Your blu-ray player plays at 24fps because that is the speed film is shot in.  24hz is better for film-base material, and 60hz is better for regular tv viewing.

  3. it won't affect except the picture quality is better. I'm not sure but I think it might have something to do with the refresh rate and 24 being better than 60 but don't quote me.
