  1. I don't think you can be too old to be a jockey.  A jockey is usually a small person, both size and weight.  I'm guessing maybe 3-4 feet tall.  I'm 5' 6" and probably a giant next to a jockey.  The reason for jockey's being small (or so I was once told) they need to stand/crouch on the back of the horse without their butts hitting the saddle while the horse gallops.  If I were to do it, not only would my butt hit the saddle a lot....wind resistance would play a huge factor.  I would be taller then the ideal height, so I would get a bunch of air....causing the horse to have to work harder.

  2. 126 is too much to weigh for a jockey.  Usually they will weigh anywhere from 100-115.  I have seen jockeys as tall as 5-9 (see Mike McCarthy mid-atlantic region in the 90's

  3. you have to be 16 to be a jockey. you have to be 115 pounds or under. and height doesnt matter much as long as your 115 or under.

  4. yep you are to heavy     you have to be 105 or less or 110 or less to ride quarter's

so yea you better hold down your weight

16 is the age you may ride at , with permission

height is really up to the rider Cassanada was 5,7  he was good and very limber

you can become a gallop person if you don't gain a whole bunch

  5. Typically, jockeys are expected to be 5'3" or less.  You CAN be taller, but you will have to compensate by being extremely thin.  126 is considered too heavy for a jockey and as someone said, 100-115 is the optimum.  Obviously, the taller you are, the more unhealthy it is for someone to weigh so little, so it works much better for someone to be short (plus, the taller you are, the more wind resistance, so being shorter is a plus for that as well).

On the plus side, you're not too heavy to be involved with something like eventing or equitation, but for that most people start training when they are children (although most jockeys do too).

  6. Nascar is totally wrong about the height.  3 to 4 feet tall?

    That is not realistic.

Yea,  Jockeys are short and they need to be, but I am sure about 5 feet.

    Found this:

    Jockey facts

    Average boot size: 5

    Average weight: 110 lbs.

    Average height: 5’4

  7. when my husband was riding which was many moons ago.  he was 5' 6" and weighed about 110 lbs.  most jockeys are small boned. they eat very little to make sure their weight is down.  being 126 lbs would be too heavy and does not mean you are fat.  the reason jockeys keep their weight down is because the saddle, helmet, and clothes are all included in the jockeys weight when riding in a race.  if all of this does not add up to the weight that the horse is suppose to carry, then they put weights inside the saddle to make sure the horse carries the right amount of weight. if you ever notice, jockeys are weighed before a race and after a race.
