I play secondary school league rugby league as a second row. I'm big/tall ( not that quick) and my coach keeps me at second row but the thing is he keeps changing the other second row they don't seem to be in place and I have to cover for his lack of experience inthe position. Am I in the wrong position? Or Should the coach moves some people around because we have alot props & flankers so maybe just change the forwards around?

  1. If you play in league, how come there be flankers?

  2. Mate sometimes your size and speed dictate were you will play. Union 2nd rowers tend to be tall so they can be lifted in the line out, if its league u tend to play left and right sides. If you’re finding, in union, your 2nd row mate isn’t on the ball then you will have to help them with their positional play. The tight 5 is an important part of the team and if you’re good at the position then you should keep playing it. You are only young and if you want to try other positions then talk to the coach

  3. "I play secondary school league rugby league"

I think that means you play Rugby League, not Union right?  To be honest with you, I cannot see a consistant difference in any players weight/build in a Rugby League forward pack (at the top level and excluding Hooker).

Your style of play doesn't change a lot from Prop to Second Row anyways.  I think the fact that others are being changed in and out while you remain is a positive thing.  Looks like you've nailed down a starting spot while the coach can't find anyone else to fit what he wants.

You did mention flankers, so maybe you play Union... in that case, your lack of speed counts you out as a flanker.  Prop is a whole different world to second row so you sound like you are kind of stuck in the second row.  Again, you sound like you've nailed a starting spot though, so you'll have to help out whoever is with you that week and hope someone steps up and becomes your constant partner.
