I'm 37 weeks pregnant & my last ultrasound showed my baby to be 2900 gms. What is the ideal weight for a new born boy or girl..? Does ethnicity prove to be a factor for the weight of a newborn?

  1. My daughters were 7lb and 8lb 9 - i think both of these are perfect

  2. Congrats you are soon going to be a mum of a healthy baby. 2900 grams is the estimated value of the weight of the baby. Remeber estimates are after all only estimates the actual weight may me much more( I usually happens so). by the by 2900 grams is good weight.

Ethinicity does count in matters of weight of new born.....

  3. My little man was 2940gm at birth 6 pound 8 oz

  4. my son weighed 7lbs 2oz and the doc said that the national average (northern ireland) was 7lbs 4 oz.

  5. I think it all depends on the parents including ethnicity. I had kinda small baby's but a friend of mine same height weight and nationality had a huge baby all were healthy and on time

  6. around here anything over 5lbs is considered to be normal and not preemie or anything, most people i know have babies around 7lbs.

  7. 4 to 7

  8. 7 pound 5 is the average, but anything over 5.5 pounds is normal.

  9. i like 'em big, about 8lbs, less intimadating.

of course, i could be bias because my son weighed 8lbs.

i'm black and his father is white. dont know if ethnicity plays a role. i'm 5'10 and my fiance is 5'11 and everyone in my family is tall and big, so it may just be genetics.

  10. i think ethnicity does count. i'm from the faroes and the average  faroese baby is a lot bigger than the uk average. they say it's because of our diet consisting of a lot of seafood but i like to think it's because we're viking lol. anyway, i was 9 lbs 5 at birth and so were all my siblings and my son.
