Question:

What is the image of a ring around my eye in a foggy bathroom mirror?

Sometimes when I get out of the shower I notice a white ring, that changes shape when I move my head, around my eye(s) when I am looking into the foggy bathroom mirror. What the heck is that all about? There is also a small dot in the center of my eye(s). When I stare into the mirror and pull my head back - ring diameter of the ring grows larger (and vice versa). WHat is happening? Whats the physics behind this? Or am I just crazy....

  3. Is this only in a foggy mirror?  If so it may have some thing to do with the hot shower...some sort of tunnel vision like side effects.  You might need to see the dr.  I know some one that had some wierd tunnel vision like effects occasionally & it turned out to be a side effect of a heart condition.

  4. It sounds like you have light from the bathroom lights reflecting off of your eyeballs. This reflected light is then reflecting off of the foggy mirror, and being dispersed by the condensation, blurring the light as it reflects back to your eye, and looks like a "ring" around your eye. The ring is getting bigger as you back away, because the light has more distance to spread out after being dispersed by the foggy mirror (much in the way a flashlight's beam appears bigger as you get farther away from the light source).
