What is the impact of refugees in shaping places and regions?

Well that is a rather broad question, but a good one to think about nonetheless.

Refugees will bring with them their culture, their language, and their religion.  So when a country takes a large population of refugees in, they should be ready for new ideas and new ways of doing things.

How much of an impact is dependent upon several factors.  The first would be the number of refugees and second would be how different their ways are to the ways of the people already there.

It's a fascinating topic, I wonder if any sociologists have ever done a study on the impact of refugees on a particular region.
