What is the importance of Sorption Studies from environmental point view??

While I was doing Sorption study, I did not understand, why people do sorption (e.g. sorption of PAHs)research?? What they can say to the public about this with the context of environment??

  1. An important concept in environmental science is thinking about things as a system.  Components of the environment flow from one area of storage to the next.  This can be of special interest when the component being looked at is a contaminant.  Sorption studies tell us something about the character of the storage points in the system (also known as 'sinks').

    For example, the capacity of a soil to hold copper ions determines how much can be added to that system before excess ions begin to be released into the groundwater.
