    I don't know. But ammonium nitrate based explosives are used when quarrying stone. I imagine it might also be used in open cast coal mining. Either that or dynamite. Coal is cut from the face underground by machines. and carried away either in trucks or by conveyer belt.

  4. Coal can be used as carrier material in preparation of Bio-fertilizer (fertilizer prepared form bacteria like Rhizobium sp, Azotobacter sp).

    In explosive industry, it is also used as filler material to create extra pressure.
