  1. Abraham Lincoln said that the meek shall inherit the earth, but they'll only inherit what's left over, after those who are less meek take what they want first...

  2. Competition is one (but should not be the only one) motivation to make things better. For the people it is important that the companies compete for the customers. And for the companies it is important that the people compete for jobs. Because most of them (companies, people) are unfortunately lazy and selfish in essence and competition forces them to offer more. But it is never good to take it too seriously...

  3. Personally I have never seen the importance in competition...

I loathe it and the kinds of people who find it useful and something everyone should participate in.

  4. The production of the best. The above answer shows complete ignorance of human evolved behavior. The two sides of the same coin are competition and cooperation. They are not dichotomous.

  5. Self-improvement and facilitation of social interaction.

  6. Nothing.  Nothing has any importance whatsoever.  All human life is as valuable as the life of one flea.

  7. I have to agree that competion is important. We all compete in some way whether it is in a race or for a job promotion.
