Discoveries of the transistor has led to the technology revolution we are now experiencing: cell phones that are really miniature computers, rapid tests for diseases, new treatments for diseases (cancer therapies), microsurgery techniques that allows reattachment of limbs, etc.

A biologist who doesn't understand physics, chemistry, mathematics will not accomplish much during his or her career!  Doctors have to understand how the chemical structure of a drug works in treating a patient and how it can harm a patient!
