  1. It's very important.

  2. I think this question is to get you to think about children as a whole. (holistic)

What does it mean that children's development is holistic?

This means children develop in stages of growth. There is more than one way children develop in stages.  Children develop emotionally, physically, mentally (cognitively), and spiritually (I think). These stages of development are not entirely linear with regard to any one aspect or one individual. Of course there are normal expectations for development, but these normal expectations are a range.  Individual children will fall within the range.

Considering this in your practice, it is best to know the normal range of development to guide how you teach. Also,  children will fall individually in different places within your practice based on who they are and where they are in their development.

This is a really complicated question that touches on the reason for developmentally appropriate practice.  Good luck on your assignment.
