  1. Because every part of the body is made up of different types of cells.  In order to fight infections (bacteria, virus, protoza, helmint, prion)  it might be usful to know how the basic building block works.


  2. A lot of times large problems, i.e. diseases, can be traced all the way back to tiny malfunctions occuring within a cell.

  3. One reason is that certain conditions, like cancers and precancerous conditions can be determined by studying cell morphology which is important for early detection. Cells contain a lot of information, most important I think is DNA. There are two types of cell in the first stages of cell division. Body cells and s*x cells. Body cells divide by a process called Mitosis and s*x cells by Meiosis.

    Body cells progress into becoming body organs like skin, glands; all have cells defining its unique tissue type.These are only a couple of reasons, but I can assure you that there are an infinite number of reasons to study cells that date back to the beginning.
