  1. flame spectra is important because it is a way of determining which compound contains particular elements like NaCl burns with an orange flame. if a particular compound is unknown, its easier to use the flame tests since diff. elements have diff. colors rather than using other kinds of tedious tests. :)


  2. Importance to who or for what? "Importance" doesn't mean anything without a context.

  3. It allows us to determine the chemical composition of a substance, since different elements burn at different colors.

  4. With any light spectrum you can tell what type of element or compound is emitting it. And with that information you can tell what wavelength it should be. So for example with a star if it is travelling away from you the doppler effect will change its wavelength and you can work out its velocity and direction.

    Redshift is an increase in wavelength and Blueshift is a decrease in wavelength.
