  1. It is a living proof of the greatness of the ancient Egyptian civilization.

To be able to build it, a complete understanding and a complete knowledge of mathematics, astronomy, dealing with stones, carving, architecture, management, using the Nile river as highway to bring some granite stones from Aswan in large boats, self confidence, self control, commitment etc are necessary.

We must know that at the time of building the pyramids there were no carriages as the wheel was not invented yet.

  2. Well in modern time to the egyptinas its like there only source of income besides cotton...they charge a tourist 100 egyptian pounds to get in but only 1 egyptian pound for a local

  3. Its the largest pyramid.

Its the oldest of the three pyramids in giza.

It was the tallest structure in thr world for over 3,800 years.

Its the toomb of the fourth dynasty in egypt.

And is the only remaining structure of the seven ancient world wonders.

  4. The pyramid we refer to as the Great Pyramid has drawn travellers since time immemorial to wonder at its sublime simplicity in line and the obvious genius of its architect Imhotept.

Built for the 2nd ruler of the 4th Dynasty Pharaoh Medjedu Khufu-at times still referred to by the Hellenized version of his name, Cheops- during his reign c 2740-2447BCE, it has stood for almost 4,500 years.

Its official name was "Khufu's Horizen" and it has withstood earthquakes, man's feeble efforts at demolision when most of the casing stones were removed for building the city of Cairo and an attempt blow it up in search of the Pharaoh's treasury of funerary goods.

No funerary goods or treasure were every found except for his sarcophagus.Everything else including the mummy of Khufu himself "disappeared" sometime in antiquity, leaving us actual no record for who this incredible structure was built except for some grafitti left by the workers and a simple cartouche bearing his name carelessly painted in red.

The interior of the pyramid is perhaps even more of an architectual and engineering masterpiece than the exterior, which was once covered on highly polished limestone casing blocks and its pyramidion or capstone.

While we understand how the pyramid was built, we still do not fully understand the purpose of many intriging interior features. Such as the so called "airshafts" that dont actually reach the outside but were placed at such seemingly purposeful aligned positions ....but to serve what purpose and aligned for what reason?

These as yet unanswered questions add to the enigma and mystery of the pyramid for many..

I feel that The Great Pyramid means many different things to different people. To some it stands for the brilliance of the ancient Egyptian culture and their ability to work stone using primitive tools and manpower.

To others it stands for the endurance of a land and people  who have withstood invastion by many different people and cultures, but somehow maintained a unique Egyptian essence. For it cannot be denied that Egypt is like no other land on this earth.

So while The Great Pyramid stands a proud reminder of the intriguing distant past it also symbolises the endurance and determination of the Egyptian people, that they too will always maintain their identity.   .
