What is the important naval base in southern France. British I think

It's Toulon. It was a crossword clue.

Thank you everybody, I just assumed (incorrectly) it was British. I am sure Cherbourg isn,t in Southern France as I have been there from Weymouth when going to La Boule and I know Gibraltar is not in France. My geography isn't that bad. Thanks anyway everybody.

Brest is Northern France, so that isn't it... Toulon IS Southern France, and those are the only "important" ones... plus, the UK has no Bases in France.

mean. It's not British.

You probably mean Gibraltar, which in fact is British. But

that would be Spain...
