  1. The overall incidence is 7% of the population. It is less common under the age of four (thank heavens, because the little tykes don't give a good history and frequently rupture), and peaks between 10 - 14 years of age and gradually declines between 30 and 40.  

    But my father was 45 and I was 58 when our appendices became inflamed.


  2. About 7% of American people will be diagnosed with acute appendicitis at some point in their life.

  3. It's rare in infancy, not to mention extremely difficult to diagnose. School ages have the highest incidence, and it drops with age, with the elderly almost in the same boat as infants.
