  1. China recently changed their regulations and requirements for adoption. You must show $80,000 worth of assets plus make a base income of $20,000 plus $10,000 for every person in your household including the adopted chils. This is bare minimum to adopt.

Additionally, you have to provide health insurance. You cannot have any history of medical issues in the past 10 years. You cannot have any felonies or DUI's or drug convictions including during your college years. You cannot be on antidepressants for the past three years or so. You cannot be blind or partially blind, or deaf or have a facial deformity (either birth or by an accident).

China has tightened their regulations as of May 1, 2007. Singles were ruled out then too. g**s and lesbians were ruled out long ago. I thought I would go back for a second child when my daughter entered school but that will not be possible due to my single heterosexual status.

  2. her answer wasnt quite accurate, its 10 thousand required for each person living in the house, plus ten thousand for the adopted child. you must have 80 grand net worth.

  3. The rule of thumb is this:

$30,000 per couple with no children, PLUS:

    $10,000 for each additional child

In other words, you must have a minimum of $40,000 income per year if you have no children, to adopt your first child.  If you already have a child in the home, then your income must be $50,000.  If you are considering the adoption of twins, your income must be $100,000 or more per year, and one parent must be a stay-at-home parent.

Also, according to China's new rules as of 5/1/07, your net worth must exceed $80,000.
