society works between interplay of forces - social,cultural, relious and political.  b4 christianity - western soc were very roman/ greek-like as it was the predominant force then.  when constantine adopted christianity, he changed it a little as the pagan rituals infused into xtianity. and it becomes a new culture which thru time became predominant.  and when religion controlled by the clergy got into power, their ego and power madness grew too.  

in india the caste system dominated everything until islam came. it gave an escape for the untouchables who embraced islam to get out of the caste system. in the north the moghuls conquered the hindu kingdoms and islamise the population.  hence culture changes thru the influence of relgion.

even today we can see the connexion between the 3 forces.  altho religion is quite dead in europe pple still cling to traditional xtian practices without realizing what its all about.

the papacy controlled all of europe and the pope abused it.  now its only 32sq km.  pple revolt agst such dominance. france though catholic entrenches secularism in its governance
