  1. when my son was still in public school, (he's now homeschooled), I tried to be part of my sons education, & talk to the teachers, & help support my son. And was told by the teachers, please leave my classroom to me, & my students. Come ot find otu, that NONE of teh students parents were allowed to come in & ask questions about there kids at all. She got in some serious trouble too, because all us paretns got together & asked the prinicple, how come were not allowed to ask questions. I mean they are our kids?

She flat out told us, its hassel to deal with parents, but I told her it will get to be a more of a hassle not to deal with us!!!

As their parents we have every right to ask questions on how their doing in class!

I have always felt that as a parent wether we homeschool or not, that the parents "should" always be part of their education, & help support that!

The shcools here are so bad, in more then 1 way. So we homeschool our son. He's alot happier too.

  2. you will have to check with the teacher.

  3. I think it depends on the classroom and school culture.

At my school, parent involvement is expected as well as needed.  I have many programs where instruction and activities are differentiated therefore I need parents to help manage those programs.

    Typical jobs are:

    1. Giving and Correct Spelling Tests

    2.  Volunteer Coordinator - dealing with other volunteers and scheduling

3 Book Orders. Managing and distribuing the book orders.

    4.  Small Group or individual instruction/support (only for those who I REALLY TRUST)

    5.  Party Planner

    6.  Art Parents - once a week they come in and teach an art lesson....ETC>>

I enjoy having parents but definately suggest in having a set of norms and expectations. Some parents do cross the line.

  4. It depends on the school and the teacher.
