  1. Sodium chloride is ionic so when it dissolves there is no reaction :-

    NaCl(s) + aq. ----> Na+ (aq) + Cl- (aq)

    Hydrogen chloride is a covalently bonded gas which reacts with water to produce ions in solution :-

    HCl (g) + H2O(l) -----> H3O+(aq)  + Cl-(aq)

    Note :-

    H3O+ is called the hydronium (or hydroxonium) ion and is present in all acidic solution.

    Hope this is some help.

  2. There is no reaction when sodium chloride is combined with hydrochloric acid.

    NaCl(aq) + HCl(aq) --> No reaction

    Na+ + Cl- + H+ + Cl-  -->  ???
