  1. Some people want the millions of dollars in financing of the Drug War by the US to continue. This keeps the Columbian government and corporations in political and financial power. This stretches all the way to the McCain campaign in the US.

It also provides jobs for American "Type A" personalities (who number in the thousands) and would be otherwise unemployable. lol.

Some want the peasants to have more of a say in their own country/government. That's what a "democracy" is.

  2. Colombia has been in civil war of sorts for 40 plus years. If the US wanted to stop the cocaine flow, free all the hostages and empty out our jails, they would make cocaine and marijuana legal. The price would go waaaaay down.. There would be no profit motive.. And a lot of gansters (including those thugs called Las Farc) would be out of business. USA, Mexico, Bolivia and other places would be much better places.. Of course to so do.. the govt would have to give up some power.. and 50,000 cops of all kinds would lose their jobs. Aint never gonna happen.
