I heard that computer and engineer occupations will have a hard time in the future for employment because most companies are moving to Asia/China to do business. This leads to the workers being laid off.

I really have an interest in computers and the network which led me to desire a job in computers. But after hearing this and seeing it for myself, (One of my parents got laid off), I was hesitant ever since to consider a job in computers.

Ironically, I saw that computers and technology were one of the fastest growing jobs in America in some web sites including Yahoo news. Also it was mentioned in other career sites.

I am confused because I do not know which side to believe. Can anyone discern between the two ironic statements?

A citation with site would be appreciated but is not needed.

Thanks.

  1. I suggest that you can chat with recruiting insiders to know the fact. I also would like to recommend you a networking jobsite--jobirn.com. It is basically a job board while it has functions of social network. You can chat with HR managers or recruiters directly just via the chat box of the site. Moreover, you can conduct video interview if you like. You can even add other members to "My Contacts" list and establish your social network for career.

  2. It's true that a lot of technology jobs are being outsourced to Asia, and this is likely to continue in the future. But these are typically 'average' jobs, and there are still plenty of jobs for top notch IT professionals (I am speaking from personal experience here). If you are really passionate about computers, then you are likely to be one of those top notch professionals, and those jobs aren't going anywhere.

    Good luck with your decision!
