i would like to be a girl who hunts downs and gathers evidence for serial killer people/mass murderers.

If you are seriously interested in crime scene investigation then you will want to research things like criminal science, but you are going to have to understand the inevitable fact that you are going to be a cop one way or another.  A detective is a highly trained and experienced police officer who leads an investigation of a murder.  Whether or not it turns out to be a serial killer is something a detective would eventually have to conclude if the evidence serves it.  There arent branches of police out there searching out every serial killer out there,  they are random and usually isolated and deranged individuals.  Plenty of regular criminals out there for you to chase.  I say go for it.
