  1. Yep you are doing something wrong, but it could be a meriad of different things.  Proper golf swings are individual and difficult to master.  Before you get too far into the bad habits that are causing your slice, you may want to take a few lessons from the Pro at the course you play frequently.

  2. To hit a straight shot you need an in-to-in swing path and a square club face through impact.  It is the hardes shot in golf.

It is much easier to control a draw or a fade.

Draw: in-to-out with a square club face.

Fade: out-to-in with a square club face.

The draw will give you the most distance.

Why are we all so obsessed with distance. Practice your chipping and putting until you become deadly at it - watch The Open and see how good the pros are and how they aren't even taking driver off the tee.  Instead they play for position not distance.

A 3 foot putt counts as one shot just the same as a 300 yard drive.

  3. Tempo, I think is the key to a great golf swing.  If you are a righthand golfer and the ball is going far down range but always heading for the right rough, you probably are doing 99% of the swing correctly (250 yrds +) but you just aren't quite finishing the swing and you are leaving the face of the club open.  Try to only pull with your left hand and let the right roll over the top a bit at the bottom of your swing. Sort of like hitting line drives in baseball, rolling your hands at contact.

If you start really hooking the ball, then back-off on the roll a bit.  You would rather hit a draw ( on a straight fairway) then a fade. A fade produces backspin and when it hits the ground it exits stange right.....a draw produces more of a over the top spin and thus when  it hits the ground it will go more down range then exiting off to the sides.

Fred Couples explains his awesome tempo with his irons in his book.  He describes how the backswing should be slow as not too alter your position and besides it has to come to a stop at the top in order to start the downswing portion.  Then as you start to bring the club downward at about 2 o'clock let the club just fall.  If you put the head of the club in the same spot and drop it, it will drop to the same spot everytime.  This also helps keep you from over powering the swing.  Then at about 4 o'clock, pull like h**l with your left generating 100+ mph.  And finish the swing with your right closeing the head. Follow through !  If you do it right you will hear the club accelerate at the bottom.  I can always tell if there is a big hitter at the range simply by the sound.  110+ mph swings produce uniquie sound.  Obviously I am talking about speeds with a driver.

  4. The only way to hit it strait is to get lesson. But you are doing two things wrong if it curving. 1. You are either in front or behind the ball when hitting. 2. the face of the club is not strait.

  5. If the ball goes right try rotating your left hand about one eighth of a turn clockwise while griping the club, i watched youtube videos and everything but that helped me the most. try you tube also for hooks(to the left) and slices(to the right) for more help!

    I average about 310 yards

  6. The face of the club must be perpindicular to the vector direction of the swing -- like this ---- T

By turning the club face in or out, you induce a spin in that direction, that opposes the direction of the swing.

It's like a baseball snapping his wrist just before releasing the ball to put a curve on it.  If he doesn't it's just a straight fast ball.

  7. i had the same problem. What i did was i stood farther away from the ball, make sure you turn your wrists over at impact so the club is squared to the ball, and after impact your belt buckle should be pointing toward your target. It worked for me but it could be different for you.

  8. Getting the clubface square to the target line at impact.

  9. I used to hit a slice, but i corrected it fairly easily.

All i did was to put the ball further forward in my stance, which meant i was hitting the ball when the face was starting to turn inwards rather than out.

  10. Do a slow motion swing and don't change anything while you swing. First, pay attention to the club face when you are hitting the ball. If it is facing outward, it causes the ball to curve right. Vice-versa. If you're club face is straight, good. Go get a lesson then because I'm done!

  11. alot of people make a d**n fine living trying to answer that question.......... most of it my money!!!

Dude .... if it was as easy as that .. i`d have quit my job and become a golf pro YEARS ago...

There is NO easy answer ....but practice practice practice ...and alot of lessons

  12. my only advice which my dad told me to do is to keep your head down through the swing and keep your head down until contact. also pull the club upwards instead of like a baseball bat swing and make sure to shift your weight on your hips. hope this helps it took me some time but I went from a bad golfer to a decent mid handi cap golfer with these tips

  13. There is only one way to hit a ball straight, and that is to ensure the club face is at 90 degrees to the target, and the plane of the swing is in line with the target. If the swing is inside to out, the ball will curve to the left (hook),if you are right handed, and if the swing is outside to in the ball will curve to the right, ( slice)

  14. The practice tee!.... The hardest shot in golf is to hit it straight, the pros normally dont hit it str8. Pick a way, whether is be a draw or a fade, and play it. Str8 holes tee it up on the right side for playing a fade and the left for playing a draw, this will open up the hole a lil.

  15. To hit the ball straight, the face of the club must be square to the target at impact.  How you get it there is completely subjective and irrelevant.

To figure out what you are doing wrong, get a few lessons from a good pro.

  16. It could be a number of things.  Without seeing your swing it is hard to say.  I would consult a teaching pro so he can watch your swing and give you some tips.
