  1. I am a volleyball player and the key to serve recieve is to know where you are going to hit the ball next (setter), who is going to get the ball (call "I got it") and also you need to practice bumping form.

  2. Simply put: footwork. Getting your body into the correct spot to pass the ball before you make contact. If you see the ball's flight, anticipate, and then make the pass, it all flows together smoothly. If you bend and reach for the ball, you have no control and the ball plays you instead of you playing the ball. It's the same with setting : fly to the spot, freeze, pass the ball.

  3. Why would I guy wearing a chef's hat play volleyball? Its like saying Barney the dinosaur doing Crank That!

  4. The key:  passing form, placement of the pass, body position, and a bit of good ol' luck.

I have been playing the game longer than I care to admit, and serve reception is one of the strong aspects of my game.  You need to watch how the ball is coming, know how you are facing in relation to your target (typically the setter), and hope to GOD that you don't overpass, underpass, or shank the ball.

I always try to square myself up to the setter when the ball is coming to me.  I then make sure I get behind the ball as best as I can and get both arms on the ball for the control.  Most of the time, I find my target and do it rather well.  There are those rare occasions where I shank the ball, and when I see my positioning I notice that I passed it the way I was facing or I was trying to pass the ball in an awkward way.

So the best thing to remember in pass reception - the basics in passing.  In all the years that I have been playing, and all of the tournaments that I have played, that is the only consistent thing about the game.  The rest is evolution.

  5. bleh i hate serve receive

i would say footwork and platform

  6. FOCUS and RELAX....some people tend to get tensed up when they r in serivce recieve...it takes a lot of practice to time it and stuff but the more reps u get the better....make sure 2 get to the ball quickly [beat it there] pretty much let your feet get into place and naturally for vball players their arms do the rest...so just get into the right postion....i think u should stay on ur toes and dont "cheat" up on the ball just incase u have to move back and so u dont get stuck...good luck and thats pretty much it!!! :D

  7. For a beginner - properly receiving a serve can be differcult -especially when spin is present, and high speed. If you can make proper contact - that will help. Improper contact usually means - your reaction is too slow or too late (sometimes both?). If you can work out why you're having problems - you can correct yourself next time - because serves can be exactly the same for the next serve.

If you adopt the never give up (and always keep trying) - you will steadily improve - especially if you love the sport.

  8. You have to know exactly what positions necessary. For a team practice it is best to practice the team in ready position and then in serve recieve position because it makes such a difference. To me, that is a major key in volleyball.

if one person is in the wrong spot then it will start off the play with a bad pass and then a bad set, and possibly if a hit at all, a very weak hit.

  9. the key to serve recieve is to predict where the ball of the server is going to land.... you have to watch the ball come from the servers hand
