  1. All of the above

  2. In order to control your speed you need to know how to stop at all times. Learning to stop when skiing may very well be the most important lesson you will ever learn. Skiing can be a very dangerous sport if you lose control. There have been a number of fatalities over the years, a high majority of which have been due to the skiier losing control.

There are 5 steps you should consider:

    1. Use the wedge, a beginner technique, to slow down and stop. You begin by pointing the tips of your skis together while the back ends are far apart, forming an upside-down letter "V."

    2. Criss-cross the trail, using the wedge to make each turn. When you turn at each side of the trail, you should ski in a near straight line in the other direction. This technique will slow you down, especially if during a turn you over-rotate and allow your skis to point upwards.

    3. Try a hockey stop, which requires that you jump in the air a little with your skis, making sure they are perfectly parallel to one another. As you are in the air, you should lean and turn your body to the right or left (whichever direction is more comfortable for you). You should scratch down the snow a little going sideways.

    4. Do the half-hockey stop technique, where you lean your body in the direction you wish to turn. As you are leaning your body, you will lift the inner leg of the direction you are turning and push out from the heel of your outer leg with a little jump. This will slow you down, and then you can place the inner leg back on the snow to complete a stop.

    5. Make yourself fall. You should be trained in how to fall. This is why it is so important to at least complete three beginner lessons at your ski area before you ski alone.

    Good luck!

  3. Balance, turn style, and turn radius.

  4. Use your turn shape to control your speed. T slow your speed, round your turn so you spend more time turning the ski and hence slowing down.  If you make a sharp turn, you will generate a turn shape that does not allow you to loose any speed (a Z shaped turn). When you make an S turn you can control your speed.

  5. The most important thing is your ski technic, you must control your speed on every kind of slope and beware  that something could happen. it is not so difficult to ski hard, but to control it at your ski level.

  6. Turning.

  7. Use your edges and your balance.  Do you want to go fast?  Here is how in a controlled manner

Stagger your skis as you turn: If you are turning to the right have your right ski further ahead (4-5inches) of the left one.  This creates a more stable, longer edge.

Weight: Shoulders over knees over bindings keep balanced.  When you initiate the turn use your weight to push onto your edges creating speed.

Transfer your weight and stagger the other edges -- you will be going fast now.

  8. keep your balance
