What is the koi fish and what does it symbolize?

The koi somewhat resembles a goldfish, but has a barbel (whisker) on each side of its mouth. The goldfish does not.It can live in an unheated pond, just like goldfish do. It can get very large. Some people enter them in competitions based on their colours and patterns of the colours.

I think that in Asia they are considered to be a sign of good luck, or that it is good luck to have them in your pond, Apparently the number of them that you have is also symbolic of different things.
