  1. Think of a seesaw. You put more on your side, "le chatelier" "puts" more on the other to "balance".

  2. Le Chatelier's Principle states that if a chemical system in equilibrium experiences a stress (such as change in concentration, temperature, volume, or total pressure), then the equilibrium shifts to partially counter-act that stress.

    For example, for the reaction A + B <---> C

    if the concentration of A is increased, the equilibrium will shift to the direction with lower concentration; that is, the forward reaction. Therefore, the amount of C produced would increase.

    This principle just basically states that when a system in equilibrium experiences a particular stress, the equilibrium shifts to a direction where the effect of the stress is reduced. Either the forward or the backward reaction will be more favored.

  3. wow, I just learned something

  4. Le Chatelier's principle states that if a chemical system at equilibrium experiences a change in concentration, temperature, volume, or total pressure, then the equilibrium shifts to partially counter-act the imposed change.

    It is well explained in a Wikipedia article........
