I'm just satisfying my curiosity. I find scorpions to be fascinating creatures and I'd really like to know if there is a record for the largest living scorpion.

  1. The Emperor Scorion is one of the largest currently living, averaging about 20 cm in length.

The Giant Sea Scorpion (now extint) was one of the largest that we know about, nearly as long as a man and a half.

Edit: That 65 lbs scorpion picture is a fake.

  2. Here is the link...LOL

  3. Really poor photoshop job :P

The largest living scorpion is a species from Sri Lanka, Heterometrus swammerdami, at upwards of 20cm ( 7.8 inch) and 32 grams (1.12 ounce).  They don't hold a candle to the largest arachnid alive, the Goliath Bird Eater Spider, Theraphosa blondi, which gets upwards of 30cm (12 inch) and 120 grams (4.2 ounce or just over 1/4 of a pound).

*added, the giant sea scorpion wasn't really a scorpion.  It was a eurypterid, which were not even arachnids!  They were relatives of arachnids though, in the same subphylum.

There was, however, brontoscorpio, which is believed to have been a true scorpion and about 1 meter long.
