The largest ship in the world is due to be completed in 2010.

The Pieter Schelte, envisaged as two supertankers joined in a catamaran design, will be used to decommission oil platforms in deep-water areas.

Industry sources estimate that the ship will cost more than £1bn to build.

The current design is for the ship to be 1,200ft long and 400ft wide - making it larger than the world's biggest oil tanker.

It will displace 840,000 tonnes, making it the world's biggest ship.

It will have a lift capacity of 48,000 tonnes for topsides and 25,000 tonnes for jackets or legs. It will travel at a speed of 12 knots.

Well as of right now, Royal Caribbean has all of the largest ships in the world. There is Freedom of the Seas (which we are going on this summer), Liberty of the Seas, and one that is having its maiden voyage right now or soone or something like that Independence of the Seas, and all of those are in the Freedom class. Then, in 2009, they are coming out with an even bigger ship, which they are calling Project Genesis, which will be followed by a sister ship in 2010. Then, in 2011, there will be another ship added to the Freedom class.
