The room is a 16 3/4 by 13 3/4 I want a table like 4ft by 8 ft. Would I be able to fit it in there? I mean with playing space I would have maybe 4 and half feet on the sides, we could just play with our cues a little vertical right? Would I have to go smaller like 7 and half my 3 and half? I really would rather not.

  1. The table will fit but it will be tight and as long as you don't hang anything other than pictures on the wall. The room would be great for a 7' table but I wouldn't even consider that as an option. Stick with the 8 footer and enjoy yourself!

  2. As everyone has said, it will be a little tight when the cue ball is right on the rail.  I picked up a short cue to play the tight spots.  And that short cue works good for my grandaughter.

    ;-)

  3. I recently had the same dilemma, and thought it could be solved by raising the sticks as well.

However, it did not work as easily as I thought.

In some parts it was fine, but by the window it was h**l.

I would get the smaller table, or you could go with the 4x8, and buy smaller cue sticks.

The average size stick is 5 feet long, not 4. The smaller ones are 3 feet long and some inches.

Also, the sticks s***w together, and if it really makes you angry, just unscrew it and use the 2 foot stub. Thats what I do for windo shots.

  4. Here's a link to a room chart for all table sizes. Assuming by 16 3/4 you mean 16'9" (not 16' and 3/4 of an inch), and by 13 3/4 you mean 13'9", you should not have a problem fitting an 8' table in that room. More room would be ideal, and you can't really have anything else in the room, but it's close enough that you don't need to settle for a 7' table.

    Good luck.

  5. If you really love pool you'd go out and buy a bigger house and get a 9 footer. Lord knows the housing market needs the business.  But if that's not an option the idea about getting a shorter cues for the tight spots seems reasonable.

  6. 8X4 is just the playing surface Im sure you know that but with 4 to 5 ft on all sides seems a little small to me for any table but ........

Just measure it out then sit any thing on the measurements a end table or what ever and see if you have enough room for your sticks.before you go to the trouble of setting up a pool table then trying it

  7. You want five feet on every side. This allows for the length of a full sized cue and room for a backstroke.  Since you are a little shy of 14X18, you will need a short cue.    This will allow you to get the eight footer and still keep a normal stroke when the cue ball is to close to the wall.  A well made 52" of 48" cue will feel like a full sized cue. There is a company called 'Troubleshooter' that makes great short cues(as short as 24")

  8. you can have the 4'X8'

You will have to raise the sticks on the ends some when the ball is on the rails but it will work easily.
