  1. I live in northern Nevada about 100 ft from Union Pacific's main westbound tracks between Chicago and the west coast so, as you can imagine, I've seen a LOT of trains go by.  The longest I can remember was a combination coal and frieght train that went lumbering through town about a year ago.  I counted 235 cars but may have missed one or two.


  2. Doubled two trains together at a place called Black Butte once.  I don't remember how many cars, but just over 10,000 feet, with the power.  We had to leave six cars behind, though.

    Got a knuckle too.  But that wasn't my fault.  The conductor put 72 cars into a 66 car track.  They don't roll so good buried in the dirt...................

  3. You can count the wagons on this one if you like, I have seen bigger consists with 5 locos.  It's narrow gauge, 3'6".

    Tripped the New London, Ohio detector. By the time I got up and got to the crossing, it was coming down the rails towards Greenwich. It rolled by for awhile.

  10. I've seen coal and empty coal trains with 150+ cars. Also some manifests and intermodals 10,000 ft+ long. That's about 2 miles..and I see that often.

    A double stack leaving chicago back when the UP took over the SP and things were all plugged up down south.
