  1. The Andes Stretch over a huge latitudinal range from Venezuela south to Tierra del Fuego in Argentina and Chile, from north of the equator to almost the southern tip of South America. In consequence it is impossible to answer your questions about rainfall and temperature range. The southern Andes in Chile are among the wettest places on earth, while the western flank of the Andes in southern Peru and Northern Chile are among the driest places on earth. With elevations ranging upward to over 6,000 meters,

virtually every climate condition known on earth except for polar can be found in the Andes and their slopes.

The landscapes of the Andes range from tropical rainforest on the lower slopes in tropical areas to boreal forest, and so forth. A huge area with a vast array of climates and landscapes!

  2. The Andes Mountains run from around 20 - 45 Deg South.

They are of course mountains pushed up by the merging of the South American and Pacific plates.

Many of the mountains are active volcanoes or are dormant (likely to erupt again).

Large areas of the western coastal area is desert with very little rainfall whereas the Eastern side is wet rain forest. The higher mountains of the southern region have snow on them all year round.

    Hope this helps.
