  1. as Arthur rightly said you can be charged with obstruction. It has happened a few times to my dad who is disabled, his garage has been blocked a number of times and he has had to phone the police who have traced the cars owner and got them to remove it.

It is an absolute nusiance , some people are lazy and selfish nowadays and don't seem to care that they block access . so dont be afraid to complain if it happens to you.

Good luck hope you get it resolved if it is affecting you.

  2. apart from hospital entrance's,I dont think there is any law against it,and you can park on the other side, not too sure if you have to have street lights every 200 yards,I remember some rule about that.if people are parking in front of your entrance, you can only politely, ask them to move, and you could put up a notice asking to keep clear

  3. You cannot obstruct a driveway or access to another persons property, you can however park anywhere else.

  4. They, the drivers, can be prosecuted for obstruction.

  5. you are not permitted to park over driveways likewise you should not reverse from a drive into a road   --you reverse into the drive

parking after dark must be in the same direction of traffic flow so approaching headlamps catch sight of  rear reflectors of parked vehicles

  6. The highways (roads) are for the passage (movement) of people and vehicles there is no right to stop (park a car or halt while walking etc) at any time.

This is why the Police can tell you to "move along" and any parked vehicle is technically an "obstruction".

  7. It really annoys me when people don't know the facts! I'm sorry to sound like an *** but if everyone above read the highway code they would KNOW the law!

    Please visit http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTra...

    Read the introduction explaining that:

rules begining MUST/MUST NOT are LAWS and therefore would be a criminal offence if broken.

rules beginning with SHOULD/SHOULD NOT or DO/DO NOT are not laws and will not result in prosecution if you break them, however, they can be used as evidence in court.

    Rule 239 says:

DO NOT park facing the traffic flow.

    Rule 243 says:

    DO NOT stop or park:

    * where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles.

    * in front of an entrance to a property.

Please please please please people: Buy a copy of the NEW highway code

Its only £2.50 and it's completly FREE online!

No wonder there are so many c**p drivers on the roads!

    Sorry - rant over :)

  8. it really bugs me when people do that. ive already said one day i will key the guy that keeps parking right on my driveway. i have clear street pretty much yet he still always gets in my way. he will learn his lesson soon enuff

  9. well lemme tell you,,,

driveways come in shapes and sizes,

if the driveway concerned has a "kerb"which crosses it,,,,it is no offence to park across it,,,

if however it is a "legit"driveway the pavement will have been let down to the level of the road,,,,obstruct this and its an offence of obstruction.

if the house owner has "raised"the road to kerb height with a concrete "ramp"that is not a legit driveway either and parking across it is no offence...if a police officer tells you to move a vehicle from wherever and you refuse,,,,he has the power to tell any motorist to move his vehicle ,,if you dont ,,then you have a problem,,,

  10. You are only allowed to park the following exists.

    - No double yellow lines

    - Not causing an obstruction

    - If the land is public

    - If the land is not private, with no prior consent

You can be prosecuted, or reported to the Police or Courts. I would not reccomend it personally.
