I was told by a cop (didn't trust him) that its 100 feet with windows open and 50 with windows closed. I can be felt 50 feet away and heard a couple hundred. Any one have any other info on the laws? i don't trust the cops around Gainesville, GA (home) and would like another opinion. Also, anyone know of a city with no sound laws? I know police dont enforce the law during the day( first hand experience) but they do at night, and i don't need a ticket for two twelve inch subs. Any info would be great, thank you, and i'll try to turn in down near your house!

  1. in wisconsin the law is 94 decibles is the maximum your system can have. the cop just told you that so he could inquire that he could check your trunk. he was probably in a S****y mood so he pulled you over for no reason. a police officer in florida put a can on my trunk and said if it fell off then i am breaking a law, but he was just a ******. your subs are actually breaking the law i am pleased and sad to say. you must have nice subwoofers, but turn it down when you see a cop, or get a radar detector and turn it down when the radar beeps, if you can hear it haha.

  2. I live in Lawrenceville and from personal experience you can beat as hard as you want right next to an officer as long as its before 11 at night.  After 11 all I've ever had is lights flashed; never a ticket.

  3. metro Detroit area

its very hard for them to write you a ticket for your sounds (and not have it thrown out in court) if they don't have a decibel-meter on them at the time of the ticket and if it has not been calibrated in under a year

but a good rule of thumb is to ride with the remote to the radio with your finger on the button (off, pause, or mute) and be ready to turn it off at intersections- RESPECT is the most important thing, when you see them turn it down
