What is the law regarding getting into R movies?

I want to see Pineapple Express and Tropic Thunder, but I am only 15. If my parent bought a ticket for me, could I go in without her, or does she need to accompany me?

If I went with a 17-year-old friend and he bought the tickets, would I be able to get in if he was watching it with me?

Please let me know, thanks

  1. you have to go into the movie with someone who's 17- your friend is fine

  2. You have to be 17 without an adult.

  3. No one under 17 admitted without a parent or legal guardian.

    Here is the actual wording.

"No persons under 17 without parent or adult guardian admitted."

  4. you have to be over the age of 17 to get in and over the age of 21 to buy some one else a ticket

  5. There is no law. This is a voluntary system supported by the movie industry and most theaters to keep the government out of trying to censor movies.

Most theaters say you need to be "accompanied" by a parent to attend an R-rated movie. But some might let that slide a bit if your parent buys the ticket so it's obvious you are attending with his or her permission.

A friend won't be able to do this.

  6. If you are under the age of 17, you have to be accompanied by an adult.  Yes you should be able to go with your 17 year old friend.
