  1. London is an expensive city, but if you budget well you can manage your money effectively.

First of all, work out how much a month's rent will cost you. That will probably be the biggest expenditure so make sure you can cover that.

Then work out bills you'll need to pay, like your mobile phone and Internet bills (if that's not included in your university hall rent).

Next, travel. If you're using London public transport, work out if a monthly travelcard or Oyster card would save you some cash. Ideally, walk everywhere! You'll also need cash to visit home during the holidays.

Finally, food. Get used to cheaper supermarket and markets - you'll save a lot of money this way. Set yourself a budget for the month and try to stick to it.

A helpful thing to do is go on the Sainsburys supermarket website and use the online shopping tool to work out what you can expect to spend on a weekly shop. Then work out if you can save money by buying fruit and veg at markets, or cutting out expensive items that you don't really need. (e.g. twice a week, have a vegetarian meal - this is much cheaper than buying meat!)

Add it all up and see how much you will need per month, approximately. Don't forget things like university books (which you can pick up cheaply on amazon.co.uk and ebay.co.uk) and, of course, some money to go out and enjoy yourself with.

You can get some discounts with the NUS card, so be sure to get hold of one of those. (Your uni may provide you with one).

Enjoy student life in London - it's great :)

  2. counting accommodation or without?

i dont think you can survive with less than 10 pounds a day excluding transport and accommodation.

if you want to include accommodation it really depends. Do you want a studio? are you willing to flatshare?

Do you really want to live in the dodgy areas of elephant and castle? if you want to live in a normal area id say that for 200 pw you get a nice studio.

It also depends what uni...I went to LSE (its in holborn) and things are d**n exp around there, same with imperial and kings. queen mary and goldsmith are quite far away and thing might  cheaper there for example...

So it really depends...please be more specific !
