  1. buy the labor laws it is 40 hour work week to be full time but that also depends on your employer some 32 hour weeks are full time its just depends

  2. An 8 hour shift

  3. It's not a government issue, it depends on where you work and what they consider fulltime.  Ask your HR department.

  4. The main reason it matters is because of benefits.  I represent health insurance companies and everyone who works 30 hours a week MUST be offered the same health insurance plan and benefits as everyone else - by law.

I think it is different depending on the state.  But every company has to offer insurance benefits to employees who average 30 hours a week.  That is what people were upset at Wal-mart about.  They were limiting their employees to under 30 hours so they wouldn't have to give them benefits.

  5. 40 hrs a week

  6. For the most part, there's no legal definition in the US as to what constitutes "full time" employment.  It's generally considered a 40 hour work week since you are paid overtime if you are non-exempt and work more than that.  The definition of what is full time and what is part time is usually set by the employer.

  7. i work 40 hours one week and 32.5 hours the next week. i am considered part time by my employer because of this and therefore i dont get benefits. im sure it depends on your employer somewhat if you work a lower amount than 40 hours a week, as they could still consider you full time. but government law states that 40 hours a week is full time and anything after that is overtime.

unless you are flat rate or salary. flat rate is where you get paid per job and therefore there is no overtime. salary is where you get paid a certain amount no matter how many or how few hours you work, considering you get your work done.

  8. I belive it is a 40 hour week

  9. it depends but usually 25 hours and under is part time unless you work at Walmart then 25 is just a days work!

  10. In IL it is 38 hours for at least six months straight to be considered full time. Each state has different laws. They are supposed to be posted for all employees to see at every business.

  11. 40 hours a week is considered full time work, which would translate to an 8 hour shift 5 days a week.

20 hours a week is considered part time.

  12. For what purpose?  Full time has no legal meaning.  If you are talking about a full time employee to receive benefits, that is defined by the employer however they want it to be.  It's possible to work 40 hours but still not get benefits.
