When I think of "cheap" and safe, I think of Volkswagen.

However, Ford and Hyundai make some great, cheap, safe cars.

Thats a bit of an odd question.  Really, how many accidents do you plan on getting into?  Do you wear a seatbelt?  If so, pretty much any car can be fairly safe.  Any life threatening situations you come across are likely to be so extreme that it won't matter what you're driving.  If you roll a car, you're gonna get hurt.  Get hit by a semi, you're gonna get dead.  Just do what I do.  Don't worry about whether or not the car is safe, worry about if YOU are a safe driver.  That, and ALWAYS assume everyone else on the road is either retarded, blind, or both.  You'll be fine no matter what you pick.
