Question:

What is the least fuel efficient Japanese car....?

I have heard from people, who apparently have a long experience of cars, saying that in general Japanese cars are made more fuel efficient than any other car for example Toyota Prius, Toyota Corolla, Honda Accord etc. If a person just considers Japanese companies then which company makes the least fuel efficient cars and what cars are those?

Thank you!

  1. It is difficult to define "American," "Japanese," "European," as a car company.  Most manufacturers have parts and assembly plants outside of their headquarter country.  A company may have ownership that is outside of their headquartered country (particularly if their stock is publicly traded).

For example, is a Toyota Camry Hybrid built in the Georgetown, KY, USA plant considered a Japanese or an American car?  Is a Ford/Mercury built in Canada considered an American or Canadian car?  Is a Chrysler car (usually considered an American brand) built while Daimler (a German company who also owns Mercedes-Benz) owned Chrysler considered an American or a European car?  Is a Mazda car considered Japanese, or American (since Ford owns Mazda)?

Anyhow, you can check out the fuel economy of all models of a particular brand/manufacturer by going to:

You can decide what companies you consider to be "Japanese companies" and see what their least fuel efficient models are.

I'll note that some vehicles sold in the US are so large/heavy, that they are exempt from getting tested for fuel economy by the EPA.  I think that most people would classify them as "American" vehicles, such as the Ford Excursion, Hummer H1 & H2, Chevy Avalanche and Suburban, and Dodge RAM...  http://www.fueleconomy.gov/f*g/which_tes...

  2. The v8 equipped cars from Lexus and Infinity are the thirstiest cars from Japan. I have acquaintances driving second generation Q45's getting 15 mpg. Acura's top of the line is the RL, 300 H.P. 3.5 liter v6 (with all wheel drive) that gets close to 30 mpg on the highway.

  3. the most least fuel efficient japanese car. IT all depends on how you drive and the driving conditions.

Obviously the bigger Japanese Cars (with the V6 even v8 engines) are the least efficient vehicles (they consume more gas than your small Honda Civic  or Toyota Corolla and also most of them take in premium fuel)

To name a few I'd say the Lexus IS-F consumes a lot of fuel and maybe the Acura RL.
