Is there a law specifically outlining the minimum age for a child to be left in self-care after school (latchkey kids)? I cannot seem to find any information on this subject.

  3. you could call a lawyer, city police,or children services, and ask them what the min,age is to leave your child alone at home.i think most states is 12 or 13.this way you can stay out of trouble.....

  4. it's NOT true that there are no laws set in the US...Illinois and Maryland both have laws regarding leaving children home alone.

"Under the Illinois babysitting laws, children under the age of 13 need a babysitter. If any child this age is left alone, the parent is guilty of child abuse under Illinois law. The law reads, “Any minor under the age of 14 years whose parent or other person responsible for the minor’s welfare leaves the minor without supervision for an unreasonable period of time without regard for the mental or physical health, safety or welfare of that minor.”

  5. I have looked it up and there are no laws set in the United States, you have to use your own judgement on whether your child is mature, responsible, knows what to do in an emergency etc...

  6. my parents started leaving me alone in the house when I was in 7th grade (age 12)...
