What is the legal age for kids to stay home alone??

so how young is too young to stay home after school for about 2 hours? 12?

um im pretty sure it's 10 but u hav to be 12 or 13 to babysit

Generally daycares will stop giving care after 6th grade, but many kids can stay home at a younger age.

If it is after school for a couple hours, middle school (6-8) grade is perfectly fine. Some kids are responsible enough to handle them selves for a couple hours when they are younger than that.

I think as long as the kid is mature enough and knows not to leave the house ect. they can stay by themselves at 12.

but since i was like 5 my alcho mum && dad left me alone

im 14 && they still do, but ive got my older brothers Robbie 20 && Warren 24, and my sister Michelle who's 22 who look after me now

but id say if your kids are about 12 then its okk to leave them alone for 2 hours =)

i agree with olivia i think it is 13, but kids DO stay home for over two hours when they are 10! 12 is a great ago to let them though thats when i was aloud.

I don't really believe there is a legal age. For two hours after school, maybe a very mature 11 year old, but definitely by 12 :).

heres my states laws...

0-9 - kids CANNOT stay home alone

10-13 - kids can stay home alone for 2 hours

13-16 - kids can stay home alone for 6 hours

16-18 - kids can stay home alone for 24 hours IF an adult that is, in an emergency, willing to help that is 5 minutes away

i don't know the legal age but i would say at least 13 because even though people are answering saying that they were home alone at 10 or 11 i was too and once someone tried to break in my house at 11 years old i panicked and i just sat in my basement and hid and cried and didn't even have the courage to go find a phone and call the police. i think those ages aren't emotionally ready to handle something like that so i would recommend 13 unless they are very well composed and you think they could handle that
