My daughter is 4 years old and she'll turn 5 on January 27th. Is she old enough to start kindergarten in the fall/08? She's brilliant, know's how to write all the letters of the alphabet. So what do you think?

  1. In Washington state they have to be 5 by August 31st. There are usually no exceptions to this rule.

  2. Nope, I think that it is the same in about every state, no matter how smart they are. My daughter is 4 and was in Pre-K this year, but her birthday is not until November so she misses the August 31 cut off and has to do Pre-K again. I guess it would be different if your child was a prodigy kid and could graduate college before the age of 16.

  3. No because she won't be 5 until after September.   She'll have to start kindergarten in Fall 2009 when she's 5 1/2.   Schools have programs for gifted kids.   Maybe that is what you should look into when it comes time for her to start school.
