  1. As long as there is not gouging due to a shortage, you can charge as much as you want.  It is up to the customer to tell you to ram it up you know where.

  2. there is no set  rate. depending on your buying power you could buy items wholesale up to 60% cheaper than list and still sell for list  as far as labour goes find out the rate others are charging phone them ask for a labour quote i do  thats how i know what my competition is charging  and wether or not i undercut them

i charge $75 an hour labour and mark up 50%and that gives me 5% below list price so its cheaper to buy it from me than buy it themselves, plus they have me do the warranty on it for a year.

also in alberta here (red deer). customer has the price and its up to them to decide to give you the job

if you are getting no jobs your too high if you are getting too many you are too low find out what everyone else charges for a similar job  and keep it the ballpark. if you are more sell yourself as reliable get the job done right without callbacks  and extremely knowledgeable. right clientele the price wont matter as long as its done right the first time and they feel they got there monies worth.

    good luck
