Question:

What is the legal definition of a furnished apartment in Portland, Oregon?

I moved into a furnished apartment 1 week ago. In my living room, I have a couch and mismatching chair, but no coffee table/end tables. In my kitchen, I have cutting boards with no cutting knives; 4 wine bottle openers but no strainer; a cheese slicer but no toaster; 24 forks but only two bowls.

There are no screens in the windows and the box spring was broken so I have been sleeping on the floor for a week.

I am a graduate student that is paying a lot of money to rent this "furnished" apartment, but I feel it is inadequate. This is a student neighborhood, but the apartment does not have a study desk?

What legally comes with a "furnished apartment"? How long do they have to fulfill my request? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  1. Whatever was in the apartment when you looked at it and decided to rent it is all they are required to provide, you might want to consider patronizing some yard sales or a mission store where you can pick up the items in question at very little cost, as far as the Mattress you should discuss it with the landlord and try to work out a deal for a different one.~
