  1. In Italy laws are the same all around the Country (regions and provinces have some administrative powers, but can't make laws); in Italy there isn't a "legal drinking age", the law strictly says is forbidden to serve alcoholic drinks (any, soft or strong) to minor of 16 in public places.

Art. 689 Italian Penal Code: http://studiocelentano.it/codici/cp/codi...

Now you also have to be 16 in order to purchase.

Some Italians are convinced legal age is now 18 because former Minister Livia Turco tried (2006/2007) to increase the limit and, as usual, all the newspaper talked about the proposal like it was a yet approved law, but when the proposal was finally rejected (2007) by the parliament, those newspapers didn't spotlight that the same way...

Campaigns aimed to sensitize people (both customers, bartenders and vendors) about respecting the 16 limit has been held from last year.

And in April, 2008 a notorious parents association was again asking the government to raise the limit to 18 (ergo, it's not 18, now).

  2. Drinking isn't as big of a deal in Italy as it is here in America. When I went with a group, we easily acquired alcohol, and our ages ranged from 14 to 17.

    They usually don't care.

However, LEGALLY, you're supposed to be 16 to drink it and 18 to purchase. That's what I learned when I looked it up before I went.

  3. hello I'm Italian. in itlaly the legal drinking age is 18.

  4. 16 and have fun :)

actually, if you look like a kid, but i mean a really young kid, they may ask you for an ID, but i alsways saw barmans serving drinks even to 15y old teens, they look like they're 18 or 20 almost... times are changed :P

  5. alessia c, cosa stai dicendo? l'età a cui si può accedere agli alcolici è 16, non 18.

as in all parts of italy, also in sardinia the legal drinking age is 16. but, very often, even if you are under16 they serve you alcoholic drink. ciao

  6. 16!

  7. Italia does not have an official drinking age.

It is prohibited to sell or issue alcoholic beverages to juveniles below the age of 16; that's all what Italian law says. However, owner of bars, clubs and restaurants are allowed to set a minimum age for entry.

So you may find bars, which allow juveniles between 16 and 18 the entrance only up to a certain time.

Legally however, they are allowed to drink alcohol from the age of 16.
