What is the level of economic inequality in capitalism and socialism?

Capitalism has inequality as long as people have different work ethics, talents, etc.  Socialism, in its ideal, has no income inequality.  Capitalism has a higher level of productivity because the profit incentive encourages people to work harder, while in socialism they're guaranteed the same income no matter how hard they work.
